Living Room Elopement

When Hannah first reached out, she told me they were eloping, but also getting married the following week in Puerto Rico.

And honestly? It sounded absolutely perfect.

I have always had a soft spot for at-home ceremonies. There is something so sacred about promising forever in the very place you’ve built memories, shared quiet mornings, and lived ordinary life together. It strips everything back to what truly matters.

Hannah and Ricky chose to legally marry at home in Lancaster before heading to Puerto Rico for their celebration, and it couldn’t have been more them.

It was simple. Perfect. Intentional in every way.

They were so present the entire time. No rushing. No distractions. Just steady joy and quiet anticipation. Their parents were there, along with Hannah’s grandmother as a witness, which made it feel even more meaningful. Three generations in one room, watching a new family begin.

They held the ceremony in the dining room. The light poured in softly, wrapping around them in the most peaceful way. After they said “I do,” they popped champagne and laughed that sweet, relieved kind of laughter that comes after a big, beautiful moment.

We even braved the cold for a few portraits outside. And when I say cold, I mean bone-numbing. The kind that makes your hands ache and your nose turn pink within seconds. But it was 100% worth it. Their closeness in those moments smiling through the chill, pretending we were in Puerto Rico made the cold practically disappear.

Then Hannah’s mom suggested we go upstairs to her childhood bedroom.

And that’s when the real waterworks started.

She sat at the desk that once belonged to her grandmother, a desk she had grown up with, and suddenly the weight of it all settled in. The little girl who once did homework there was now a wife.

One week later, they would stand in Puerto Rico, surrounded by palm trees and ocean air, celebrating with loved ones. But this day, this quiet dining room ceremony, the champagne, the freezing portraits, the childhood bedroom, this is where their marriage began.

At home.

And it was beautiful beyond words.

Cheers to the Millers!!
