Photographing Autumn’s engagement session felt especially meaningful because we’ve known each other since we were kids. We met riding horses in elementary school. Being able to photograph her engagement surrounded by them felt full circle in the best way. She also is a fellow photographer so I was beyond honored to be able to document this for her.
When Autumn told me she wanted horses in the background of her engagement shoot, I immediately loved the idea. It wasn’t just pretty, it was personal. She found the perfect farm, and we set a date at the end of February since her wedding was quickly approaching.
February in Pennsylvania is always unpredictable, so we weren't sure what we’d get. Somehow, we landed on the first 70-degree day of the year. The light was soft, the air felt like early spring, and it could not have been more perfect.
We stepped into the field with the horses grazing behind them, and the whole session felt natural from the start. Nothing forced. Just movement, laughter, and a place that already meant something to her and her fiancé.
Afterward, we stopped by her childhood home to pick up their puppy, Bear, and took a few more portraits in the field behind the house. Photographing couples in places woven into their story will forever be my favorite, the familiarity, the memories, the history. It creates images that feel deeply personal and impossible to replicate anywhere else.
That’s why I love building engagement sessions around an activity or setting that actually reflects who you are. When you’re somewhere familiar, doing something you genuinely enjoy, the photos feel different. More relaxed. More honest.
Photographing Autumn in a space that’s been part of her story for years, now at the start of her marriage, was such a gift. It was simple, meaningful, and completely her.
